SHE -THE HUMAN COMPUTER
“You lose your curiosity when you stop learning.”, was quoted by the human computer Katherine Johnson. She was born on August 26, 1918.She holds the awards for the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal and is well known for being the only lady and African-American lady in a white dominated NASA team.
During her work she calculated trajectories, launched windows, and emergency return paths for mercury return projects, she managed to do all this even with such little technological advancement. Katherine having a thirst for knowledge. At the start of her career was she was teacher, later she started working with NACA where she became known for her accurate mathematical calculations.
Katherine was also included in BBCs most influential women ever. A book is titled, Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterle was written and a movie was also made on her by Theodore Melfi.
On her first research paper she made sure she was credited for her work and the title of co-author was given. At this moment, she understood the power of having a voice. She died in 2020 at the age of 101.
