Steinem spent her early years traveling with her parents in a house trailer. During her senior year of high school, Steinem moved to Washington, to live with her older sister.

She graduated from Smith College in 1956. In 1960 she began working as a writer and journalist in New York City. Steinem gained attention in 1963 with her article “I Was a Playboy Bunny,”. By 1968 Steinem’s work had become more overtly political. Steinem gave much of her time to political organizations and became an articulate advocate for the women’s liberation movement. In 2016 she hosted the television documentary series Woman with Gloria Steinem, which focused on issues that concerned females.

Tiffany was born in Chennai, India, where her father was posted, and grew up in Punjab. Tiffany Brar suffered Terry Syndrome and became blind six months after her birth. Due to her father's occupation Brar travelled widely. Because she was blind, verbal communication was important and she became multilingual.
